A few years back, a guy that works for our distribution partner told me his four-year-olds were attending some ritzy pre-kindergarten school. As long as we continue to believe that a person's alma mater is a reliable predictor of his value as a member of society (in all its facets), and remain too busy to spend time with our kids, fru-fru pre-nursery schools will continue to blossom.

I was reading recently -- it could have been either The Element or Last Child in the Woods -- about the pressure put on parents, notably in Tokyo and in New York City, but emerging elsewhere, to secure acceptance for their kids into the right preschool, to prepare them for the right kindergarten and elementary school, to prepare them for the right secondary school, to prepare them for the right college.
