My comments were no more illuminating than what I've already written, but I can report that for the former, Heather was 5 1/4 and Janet 2 3/4. For the latter, Heather was 8 1/4 and Janet 5 3/4. What's interesting is that five seemed to be a particularly sensitive age for both. The younger Janet didn't have any problem with Pinocchio, and the older Heather really enjoyed The Princess Bride.

However old I was for Pinocchio, the fright of that whale scene is burned in my memory. It does make me think more, reflecting on this now.

This is where I rue the fact that I still have eight of my print journals yet to transcribe. :( It would take me more time than I'm willing to devote at the moment to find out how old you (Janet) were when we first saw The Princess Bride. Quite young, I believer. I remember that Grandpa took us, and you and I left the theater because you couldn't stand it. I know I tried to convince you to go back in, so that you would see that it all came out all right at the end. I think I succeeded, but I don't remember for sure.

You watched it again, at your 13th birthday sleepover party. I don't know how you handled it, because I was asleep at that point. :)

I still worry about very young children watching movies, because of their incompletely developed ability to distinguish fantasy from reality. But the way Jonathan watched The Princess Bride movies is a huge improvement over yours. I couldn't warn you about the scary parts because I hadn't seem them myself.

We should have learned form Heather's similar experience, which was with Disney's Pinocchio. We didn't leave the theater, but she did "watch" part of the movie (the whale scene) with her face pressed into my chest.

Your first time watching was in the theater, where no one could warn you.

We talked to Jonathan ahead of time, telling him about the scary parts and how it would all be fine in the end. Then we continued while watching, with the pause button at the ready.

It worked great!

I don't remember if we stopped it to talk the first time during the fire swamp or not.

What a cutie! He watched the Princess Bride at his age and was fine? I think I saw it about the same age and I was scarred for a long time, though I remember liking the story, it was too scary for my little heart to bear.

Aww, I miss you guys!
