Eight months is pretty late for rolling over. But I have to admit that I discouraged it. It's so handy to not have them be able to roll away from a diaper change, or for me to be assured that if I need a brief time to be away and know they won't go anywhere, I can put them on their backs like a little stuck turtle. I did plenty of encouraging for other types of mobility, so I don't feel badly about this one.
The high school kids have to complete 15 hours of community service in order to graduate. Really not very much and I suppose the hope is that it exposes them to the idea and perhaps they will continue even after the requirement is done. Tom finished his, but it was at the media center at school and once he was done, he was done. I've given him some other suggestions, but without much success. Ideally he would find something he was passionate about, but I think that's a stretch for most teens.

Billy on the other hand has over 50 hours in less than 4 months. He helped me with the book sale and he has been going every week to serve dinner at one of the local churches.
I couldn't agree with Jonathan more! We should keep that in mind when we make our to-do lists. Nothing kills motivation more than having it on a "must-do" list. Few "must-dos" and plenty of "can-do-if-I-choose" and I'm happiest!
